International Summer School Programme

01 Programme Features

The programme offers a four-week Chinese language course (1 July - 28 July), as well as ‘Chinese + Computer’ and ‘Chinese + Industrial Robotics’ courses. The programme consists of four levels of language classes: Basic, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced, as well as a series of lectures on China's national conditions and Chinese culture (taught in English), and cultural visits within and outside Shandong Province.



02 Programme and Activities

A. Programme

1. Types of Courses: Integrated Chinese language courses, ‘Chinese + Vocational Skills’ programmes.

2. Modes of Attendance: Taught offline on campus at Binzhou Polytechnic.

3. Class Schedule: Monday to Friday, 4 lessons per day.

1)Integrated Chinese Language Course: Monday to Friday, 2 lessons/day, 10 lessons/week.

2)‘Chinese + Vocational Skills’ programme: Monday to Friday, 2 lessons/day, 10 lessons/week (including Chinese company visits).



B. Introduction to the Curriculum (all programmes use school-based teaching materials)

I. Integrated Chinese Language Programme

1. Course Contents:

1) Intensive Reading: Focuses on improving students‘ written expression ability; through learning Chinese vocabulary and grammar, and strengthening the training of reading and writing ability, students’ comprehensive ability in Chinese will be enhanced.

2) Oral Chinese: focuses on improving students' oral expression ability; through learning common vocabulary and sentence patterns in oral Chinese, students can improve their communicative ability in Chinese.

2. Level requirements:

Basic Class

This class is designed for learners who have no previous knowledge of the Chinese language. Teaching content is mainly Hanyu Pinyin, basic Chinese characters and basic daily communication terms.

Elementary Class

For learners with a Chinese vocabulary of over 200 words. Students learn basic Chinese grammar and common words, and improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

Intermediate Class

For learners with a Chinese vocabulary of about 1200. Students will expand their vocabulary and be able to use Chinese accurately and skilfully to complete communicative activities in life, study and work, and to express themselves in paragraphs.

Advanced Class

For learners with a vocabulary of about 2500, to further expand their vocabulary, and to be able to use Chinese accurately, skilfully and appropriately to communicate and discuss a wide range of social topics.


II. ‘Chinese + Computer’, ‘Chinese + Industrial Robotics’

1. Course Level:

1) For students of all levels

2. Course Content:

1) Computer fundamentals, web design, industrial robotics fundamentals, C++ programming.

2) Practical courses will be arranged according to the study content.


C. Course Requirements

The Chinese Summer School at Binzhou Polytechnic adopts small class teaching, with about 15 students in each class. At the same time, in order to make full use of quality resources, classes with less than 8 students at the same level will be cancelled and students will have to choose other programmes or courses instead.


D. ‘Dialogue with Master Teachers’ English lecture series

This series of lectures will invite famous professors to give 4 wonderful English lectures, the main professor has been engaged in Chinese teaching, cultural research and international exchange experience for a long time.

1. Lecture period: 1 lecture per week, each lecture counts for 1.5 hours, and the specific arrangement will be informed after enrolment.

2. Lecture topics: Chinese history and culture, language learning methods, international relations, finance and economy, etc. 3.

3. Lecture language: English

4. Lecture Certificates: Participants who have attended more than 75% of the lectures in the time slots they have applied for will be given a certificate of attendance containing information about the hours of the lectures.


E. Transcripts & Certificates

1. Participants should not be late, leave early or be absent.

2. If you are unable to attend the class for any reason, you need to take leave of absence (casual leave/sick leave). 3.

3. Being late or leaving early for 3 times will be counted as 1 absence, and 1 point will be deducted from the grade of the examination for one absence; no points will be deducted for sick leave with a doctor's note, and no points will be deducted for absence without a doctor's note, and 0.5 points will be deducted for 1 absence on personal leave (1 absence refers to 2 hours of study).

4. In principle, students who have been absent from a course for 25% or more of the total hours of the course will not be awarded a grade for the course.

5. The final grade is composed of three parts: the final examination grade of the course, the usual grade and the attendance.

6. After the completion of the course, Binzhou Polytechnic will issue the certificate and official transcript of the short-term study abroad programme of Binzhou Polytechnic to the students who meet the completion requirements.




03 Cultural Experiences in Practice

04 Visas, Insurance and Accommodation

A. Requirement to come to school

1. Hold a valid study visa or permanent residence permit for foreigners.

2. Students must strictly abide by the school rules and regulations during the study period.


B. Visas and Insurance

1. Visa: Admitted students are required to apply for a short-term study visa (X2-word visa) to China at the local Chinese Embassy with the admission letter. Students must enter China with a study visa or a permanent residence permit and ensure that their stay documents are valid during their stay in China.

2. Insurance: International students must take out insurance in accordance with relevant national regulations and school requirements. Students are required to purchase insurance in China before the start of the programme or within the stipulated period.



C. On-campus  Accommodation

Binzhou Polytechnic provides dormitories and the cost of accommodation is about RMB 100 per person per day (the cost varies with different room types).



05 Application for Enrolment

A. Eligibility

1. Non-Chinese nationals holding a valid foreign passport.

2. Be between the ages of 12 and 18. (Including 12 and 18 years old)

3. Be in good health, friendly to China and have no criminal record.


B. Application Period

Applications will be accepted from 1 April 2024 onwards. Of these, applications for the programme commencing on 1 July 2024 will close at 2400 hours on 1 June 2024 BST.

Places are limited and will be filled on the basis of merit.


C. Application Materials (scanned copies, submitted online)

1. Passport personal information page.

2. Proof of enrolment (in Chinese or English).

3. A letter of recommendation from your school or organisation (in Chinese or English).

4. a certificate of Chinese language proficiency or a certificate of Chinese language learning (if available).
